Book Talk and Reading: Loon Lessons by Jim Paruk

At the Bolton Landing Free Library, Dr. Jim Paruk will present on his new book: Loon Lessons: Uncommon Encounters with the Great Northern Diver . The presentation begins with Dr. Paruk’s short talk about Common Loons, followed by a reading from the book. This event is free and open to the public. The presentation will take place twice, at 4:00 pm.

Jim Paruk is a Professor of Biology at St. Joseph’s College, in Maine, and has been studying Common Loons across North America for the past 28 years. He has published over 25 scientific articles on loons and recently wrote a book, Loon Lessons: Uncommon Encounters with the Great Northern Diver (University of Minnesota Press), that takes an evolutionary approach to understanding their behavior and life history strategy.

Jim holds a Yellow-billed Loon during a research expedition to the North Slope in Alaska.
